Theatre’s ‘Almost, Maine’ earns bid to regional festival
Congratulations to UW-Green Bay’s highly regarded Theatre program, recipient of yet another invitation to the college theatre regionals. An independent judge who saw the program’s production of the contemporary romantic comedy Almost, Maine in October convinced fellow panelists that the show is one of the half-dozen best in the district, and worthy of inclusion in the American College Theater Festival’s regional festival at Michigan State University in early January. “Everyone is terribly excited,” said UW-Green Bay Theatre Prof. Laura Riddle.

The UW-Green Bay Theatre program will begin rehearsing and remounting its production of Almost, Maine the Monday after Christmas in order to sharpen the production for participation at the regional festival. They have scheduled a public benefit performance on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre in Theatre Hall. Tickets, available at the door, will be $20 for adults, $10 for students, for purchase via cash or check only. Almost, Maine earned enthusiastic reviews and audience response over its seven-show run earlier this fall. Prof. John Mariano directed the student cast through nine vignettes involving relationships at various stages. The action takes place in a tiny, snowy town in northern Maine.
Theatre bid continues winning streak
Almost, Maine joins an impressive list of UW-Green Bay Theatre productions invited to Great Lakes regional competition in recent years. Over the last decade, the program has averaged an ACTF bid every two years. Recent entries include The Balkan Women (2009); Red Herring (2006); The Christmas Schooner (2004); Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls (2002); and On the Verge (1999).
