Colorful celebration: UW-Green Bay gets its pink on for national Pink Week
The UW-Green Bay campus is getting pretty in pink this week, part of a national celebration dedicated to the harmonious hue.
Pink Week is a weeklong national “holiday” first celebrated in 1993. Its purpose, organizers say, is simple — to celebrate the color pink. It has no political, religious or social agenda. The idea? Just think pink.
And UW-Green Bay has responded. Pink ribbons, yarn bombs, pictures and even pink tongues have begun cropping up across campus, bringing a little color to some gray November days. UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. Sarah Detweiler is the University’s Pink Week ambassador, working to coordinate pink participation in the Studio Arts Building and beyond.
The UW-Green Bay community is encouraged to enjoy Pink Week here on campus, peeking at or participating in pink projects from now through Friday. Other suggestions from national Pink Week organizers (www.pinkweek.org) include wearing pink, eating pink (baloney, cotton candy) and visiting a pink place. At UW-Green Bay, it’s a fun chance to go green and still think pink.
