Inauguration: retirement advice and more
If you missed the ceremony, Chancellor Thomas K. Harden’s inaugural address centered on his fascinating path to a career in higher education. He credited a grounding in the liberal arts and his wife, Cathy, for inspiring that pursuit. Also, he probably sent more than a few people in the audience of more than 500 home to google the term “slag notching” after he referenced one of his early jobs in an Ohio steel mill. Mayor Jim Schmitt offered greetings from the community, and drew a big laugh when (against the backdrop of the weekend’s Brett Favre Homecoming hysteria), he shared this advice: “Chancellor, after you serve a long and successful career in Green Bay, retire once!” We’ll have more coverage, and information on a link to the speech video, in our next newsletter.
