UW-Green Bay graduate student applies studies from afar
Master’s candidate in Applied Leadership, Second Lt. Andrea Ackerman, pictured above, is currently serving a one-year deployment at Operating Base Fenty, Afghanistan, and finishing the last requirements of her program from afar. Her line of inquiry in the master’s program has focused on the use of community gardens in assisting veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. She has put her leadership skills to use by creating an on-base community garden she dubbed, “Fenty Farms,” while overcoming the obstacles of no soil, few seeds and blistering hot conditions. Ackerman plans on participating in December commencement upon her return. as well as implementing community gardens in our area next summer.
