Employee giving surpasses 2008 pledges

With just 12 days remaining in the 2009-10 UW-Green Bay Faculty & Staff Campaign, the Big Thermometer shows that 32% of the employees on campus have made their contribution! While this beats last year’s total participation rate of 29%, it is still significantly short of the goal this year.

A look at the Faculty & Staff Campaign shows that the Outreach and Adult Access Team, captained by Christina Trombley, has taken the lead with nearly 80% of the staff in that area having contributed. A number of other teams have also reached or surpassed the 50% participation level. Director of Development Shane Kohl reports that a special surprise awaits those teams that do reach the 100% mark (and no, he states it is unfortunately not a pay raise). In addition, a campus celebration will be held this fall to thank everyone for playing a role in what is shaping up to be a record-setting Campaign.

For those thinking that only some of the smaller teams will be capable of reaching a high participation rate for the Faculty & Staff Campaign this year, Shane Kohl cautions you to think again. While some teams are obviously a bit larger than others, the two largest teams currently have much higher participation totals than several of the small groups. In addition, many faculty and staff members have expressed concerns that, if on a nine-month contract, it’s difficult to make a contribution early in the Campaign. Shane reminds everyone that gifts made through payroll deduction can start later in the semester, and donors may even choose to be invoiced during the spring semester. It’s easy to find reasons not to give. However, here’s one reason you should consider a gift…it helps ensure that UW-Green Bay continues to provide a quality, accessible, affordable education for students. Who can argue with that?
