Correction: Men’s basketball has had other 'home' sites
In last week’s item about the Phoenix basketball exhibition game at the Kress Events Center, we noted correctly that it will be only the second men’s game played on campus. We were incorrect, however, in describing those as the only two times the men played a home game away from the Brown County Arena or Resch Center. A noted basketball historian (thanks, Marilyn) shares the following:
• UW-Green Bay played Winona State at Marshfield High School on Jan. 11, 1972 (and lost, 104-92). The game was scheduled at Winona but had to be moved, and turned into a home game of sorts, as then-Coach Dave Buss was a Marshfield native.
• UW-Green Bay played Milton College at Pulaski High School on Feb. 25, 1978 (and won, 74-43). The regular-season game was played on the former home floor of Phoenix all-American Ron Ripley.
• UW-Green Bay played Missouri Baptist at the Phoenix Sports Center on Feb. 22, 1979 (and won, 78-55). The change from the arena was weather related.
