Music to our ears: 100-plus musicians and vocalists visit for summer camp
Week number six of UW-Green Bay Summer Camps brings more than 110 high school musicians and vocalists to UW-Green Bay for the High School Band, Orchestra, Choral and Piano Camp. Campers will participate in rehearsals, sectionals, master classes, performances and other choice classes, and perform in a culminating public concert in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, July 21 at 6:00 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Next week UW-Green Bay will host the first of two Robotics & STEM camps. Twenty-four students will be divided into beginner and advanced divisions; instruction for beginners will include basic building and programming, and advanced divisions will include more in-depth programming tips and pointers for success. Each team will be provided a computer and a Lego Mindstorm NXT kit. Teams will be given missions (challenges) to complete, requiring them to build a robot and develop programming to allow the robot to “solve” the real world challenges. To further connect this camp to real life practices, campers will participate in a field trip to a business using robots in their business practice. On the final day of camp, the campers will compete on a large-scale Lego playing field of challenges. Each division will compete among themselves, with the winners of each division playing for a final overall camp winner.
