State furloughing everybody, no matter the paycheck source

Faculty researchers and other UW System employees paid with federal funds or other non-state sources are subject to furloughs, even if it won’t help the state’s budget situation, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. State officials (not UW officials) have said these workers will have to take the unpaid furlough days — equivalent to a 3 percent annual pay cut. But for workers paid through federal grants, UW-Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin said the move could take researchers out of their labs and reduce research enterprise. Read more.
