Women’s softball captures first Horizon League regular season title, and No. 1 seed
The Green Bay softball team captured its first Horizon League regular season title in program history as it took two of three from Valparaiso over the weekend. Coach Jean Rivett and her team are 24-11 overall and finished 11-4 in conference to claim the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Wright State (13-6) took the No. 2 seed, Valparaiso (11-8) is the No. 3, followed by Youngstown State (11-8) at No. 4, Cleveland State (8-8) as the No. 5 seed and UIC (8-10) rounding out the tournament field. The Phoenix advances to the Horizon League Softball Championship, which will be played at the WSU Softball Field on the campus of Wright State University, beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday (May 7) and running through Saturday (May 10). The championship will feature the league’s top six teams in a double-elimination format with the winner of the tournament earning an automatic berth into the 64-team NCAA Softball Championship next week.
