Working his way through UW-Green Bay, one fish at a time
A recent fishing column by syndicated Wisconsin sportswriter Pat Durkin tells of an outing on the big waters of Green Bay with a 21-year-old fishing guide who happens to be a UW-Green Bay communication student. Captain JJ Malvitz owns JJs Guide Service LLC. Because he’s a professional guide on Green Bay and Lake Michigan, Malvitz’s workplace is on federal waters patrolled by the U.S. Coast Guard, so he needed their certification and special training as a licensed captain. Durkin writes that “between guiding, studying, writing homework and attending classes while commuting from the family’s home near Sturgeon Bay, Malvitz keeps tabs on weather, fishing reports, and ice or wave conditions.” Interesting student job – read more.
