27th Annual Founders Spring Reception
More than 120 supporters and friends of the University gathered for the 27th annual Founders Association Spring Reception, April 28. Guests enjoyed a casual environment and a chance to meet with students who took part in the 2008-09 Common Theme: Waging War, Waging Peace.
Greeting the guests were Founders President John Heugel, Interim Chancellor David Ward, Director of University Advancement Dan Spielmann and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Scott Furlong. Furlong spoke about the Common Theme, saying the idea is a great fit for a campus which is interdisciplinary in nature and values looking at subjects from multiple perspectives. Furlong announced that next year’s theme is “Realizing our Sustainable Future.” He invites the campus and community to share in a number of events that will include national speakers, plays, projects and common readings.
Established in 1972, the Founders Association generates support of students by providing annual scholarships and academic program support. Faculty, staff, alumni and community members make up the organization that is nearly 1,500 members strong.
