Marinette Higher Education Coalition streamlines visit experiences

Kelly Thompson, NWTC Marinette and Katie Mulzer, UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus, work with regional K12 partners so that students can visit both campuses in one day.

Prior to our joint efforts as the Marinette Area Higher Education Coalition, each of our campuses—NWTC Marinette and UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus—hosted separate events showcasing our programs and support for students.

That approach meant more work for our K12 partners and more days away from school for their students. Students came away from those visits thinking they had to choose one campus or the other for their higher education goals.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Kelly Thompson at NWTC Marinette and Katie Mulzer at UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus, regional K12 partners and students now visit both campuses and learn about all our programs and pathways in one day.

The logistics of this work are challenging: school schedules, working with faculty and staff at both campuses, the bussing between campuses, food and giveaways…and if you have ever worked with a group of teenagers, there are those challenges as well!

Kelly’s and Katie’s leadership means students have a clearer understanding of local options after high school. Students leave knowing that we are working together to meet their needs. They learn about taking classes at both campuses and pursuing bachelor’s degrees through Coalition pathways.

All of us at NWTC Marinette and UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus share a passion for helping students of all ages find a path to a great career.

Whether it is a group of eighth-graders from Peshtigo or Menominee, sophomores from Marinette, Oconto, or Wausaukee, or seniors from Coleman, Crivitz, or Stephenson, students leave with a better sense of community and regional opportunities for employment and how our campuses can help get them there. Plus, they meet with energizing faculty, see themselves in the students who are on campus, learn about the support and resources on each campus, and leave with fun giveaways to help remember the day.
