Phoenix women claim national championship… in scoring defense
With the conclusion last Tuesday of the NCAA women’s basketball season, the final statistics are out and they reveal that UW-Green Bay had the nation’s top scoring defense. The Phoenix allowed just 50.8 points per game in 2008-09, the lowest of more than 300 Division I schools. (Their total was also the fourth-best defensive effort in NCAA Division I history.) It was a great year all around for the 29-4 Phoenix… Of the 18 statistical categories tracked by the NCAA, they finished in the top 10 in seven categories. See details.
