WNBA? King drafts Wojta for TaylorMade team
Thursday was a big night for Phoenix basketball star Julie Wojta. She rushed over following practice to make the Business Week Dinner at the Weidner. She found herself being introduced for the first time to special guest Mark King ’81, CEO of TaylorMade-adidas. Later, when King began his keynote remarks, he introduced Wojta, seated at a table near the lectern, and asked her to stand and be recognized. It was then he revealed he had minutes earlier made Wojta an on-the-spot job offer to join the international golf equipment manufacturer, based near San Diego. While he joked about finding a teammate for the company’s two-on-two hoops tournament, he also acknowledged her impressive academic resume. (She has a GPA near 3.75 in Accounting, a demanding, high-credit major. She recently earned national Academic All-America honors.) King suggested Wojta has an obligation to first explore her professional basketball opportunities — she’s rumored to be a potential WNBA draft choice — but that his offer would remain open.
