Former Phoenix star Ricketts starts for Canada
The national soccer teams of the United States and Canada played a dull 0-0 draw in Tuesday night’s exhibition match in Houston, so you are to be forgiven (if not applauded) if you missed the telecast. More interesting was the presence of a former UW-Green Bay soccer star in Canada’s starting lineup. Tosaint Ricketts, 25, a native of Edmonton, plays striker for his country’s national team. Ricketts was the first former Phoenix soccer player to make a national team squad. He was a top scorer and two-time all-league selection for UW-Green Bay, concluding his eligibility in 2009. He has played professionally in Finland and Romania and signed last fall with Valerenga in Norway’s top league. Read more.
