Worth repeating: ‘High honors’ for Green Bay athletes
Make no mistake, Green Bay coaches do an excellent job recruiting dedicated athletes committed to academics. The proof is in the grade point and commencement honors. Just released, Green Bay Athletics can boast of 32 straight semesters of a 3.0 GPA or better. Six programs achieved a 3.50 or higher, led by women’s cross country with a 3.83, and followed by men’s tennis (3.79), softball (3.67), women’s basketball (3.63), women’s Nordic ski (3.54), and volleyball (3.51). The 3.33 GPA is the highest ever recorded during the fall semester in that span. The percentage of student-athletes to graduate with honors (3.5 or higher) registers at 50 percent, with a total of 116 Phoenix student-athletes registering Honors, High Honors or the Highest Honors. “We are extremely proud of our student-athletes who have once again displayed success in the classroom. This exemplifies the teamwork between Green Bay student-athletes, faculty and university and department staff and coaches for yet another semester,” Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie said.
