Women travel to Wright State… and the latest on rankings and RPI

After enjoying a successful nonconference, the Green Bay women’s basketball team will tip-off Horizon League play at defending league tournament champion Wright State on Wednesday night (Jan. 7) at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, in a quest for its 17th-straight regular-season championship. Green Bay is 10-3, Wright State 11-3. The Raiders knocked off Green Bay in the Horizon title game at the Kress Center last spring.

Receiving votes in AP, a lofty No. 9 in RPI — The latest Division I polls are out. Coach Kevin Borseth’s team is absent from the USA Today Coaches Poll, but Green Bay shows up about midway down the lengthy list of “Others Receiving Votes” for the AP Top 25.

Meanwhile, on the official NCAA computer ranking site (the RPI) the Phoenix remain in the Top 10 at No. 9. That number will likely fall regardless of wins or losses as UW-Green Bay enters Horizon League play and faces fewer nationally ranked teams, but the lofty ranking is nonetheless a very impressive achievement for a mid-major program so late in the season.
