Wonderful Weidner: Holiday Pops, recorded this weekend, to air on PBS
The Green Bay Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Pops delighted crowds for two shows at the Weidner Center this weekend — but if you missed out (or would like to catch it again), you’re still in luck. PBS recorded the concert, which will air at 7 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 19) and 3 p.m. on Christmas Day. Weidner events are dominating the PBS airwaves these days, as a member of the public television crew remarked to Weidner staff this weekend. It’s true — Ethan Bortnick (show aired Saturday) and Holiday Pops were recorded here, and PBS specials Daniel O’Donnell and Celtic Woman have been airing back-to-back during the station’s pledge drive, as well.
Gerds calls Mannheim show a win
Two performances from the iconic Mannheim Steamroller group filled the Weidner Center with holiday cheer Sunday (Dec. 15), bringing the band’s signature Christmas sound — and images — to a festive and appreciative crowd. WFRV, Channel 5 Critic-at-Large Warren Gerds was among the attendees, noting in his review that “The Packers won, and so did Mannheim Steamroller.” Gerds praised Mannheim’s music and visuals, also noting that the Weidner’s Cofrin Family Hall is a great place for such a show. At least one member of your Log news team was on hand for the matinee (and home in time for the last minutes of the Packer game, to boot), and agrees wholeheartedly with the critic’s praise. Great stuff. Read Gerds’ review.
