In the news: “Skateboard cop” alum teaches autistic kids to shred
A UW-Green Bay alumnus continues to make headlines as Green Bay’s “skateboard cop” — most recently for helping autistic kids in our community. Joel Zwicky ’97 offered free skateboard lessons Sunday (Dec. 7) to more than 15 local youngsters who are on the autism spectrum. Fox 11’s Making a Difference report was on hand to capture the lessons, talking with Zwicky, his young students and their parents about the day’s event. “I found this group out of Pennsylvania called Get on Board that teaches skateboarding to kids with autism,” said Zwicky, a UW-Green Bay Psychology grad. “Here, with skateboarding, there’s no expectation. There are no rules. They just work at their own pace through the process of doing it. This is a social situation.” Nice story.
