UW-Green Bay, aviation partners to present course for private and sport pilots
Community members ages 16 and older can explore the world of flight with “Aviation and Aerodynamics for Private and Sport Pilots,” a UW-Green Bay Education Outreach course beginning Monday, Feb. 9 and running weekly through Monday, April 6.
Designed to help participants understand the aerodynamic principles and physics of powered flight, as well as to evaluate the exciting field of aviation as a career or hobby, the nine-week class will prepare students to take the Federal Aviation Administration Private Pilot or Sport Pilot written exam. There is no prerequisite for the course, which takes place at the CAVU Flight Center in the Executive Air Building at Green Bay’s Austin Straubel International Airport.
Aviation and Aerodynamics for Private and Sport Pilots is taught by Sherwood (Woody) Williams, who spent three decades as a teacher, principal and district administrator in Wisconsin schools. He is now a learning consultant to organizations including CESA 7, the Experimental Aircraft Association, LightSPEED Technologies and the Sherwood Educational Design group. Williams, a flight instructor and the owner of CAVU Flight Center in Green Bay, continues to share his enthusiasm for learning in university, school and community groups in the areas of literacy program development, supervision, conflict resolution and developing consensus.
The Aviation and Aerodynamics course runs from 6-9 p.m. Mondays, beginning Feb. 9 and running through April 6. The cost for the course is $300 for private or sport pilot students, which includes course materials but not the fee for taking the FAA knowledge test.
