Columnist recalls problem-solving lesson from days at UW-Green Bay

The Green Bay Press-Gazette’s weekly “Community Snapshots” columnist had a great piece Wednesday (Sept. 4) about her days at UW-Green Bay. Specifically, Lori Linna recalls her freshman-year Design Methods course, in which she and her classmates were tasked with designing a contraption that would cause a series of things to happen in a one-minute timeframe. Linna recalls her struggles with the project, and how she worked through the problem-solving process to make her contraption fulfill the requirements. “What was fascinating to me was how each student had a different solution to the same problem,” Linna writes. “ … What I learned from this course is there can be numerous solutions to the same problem — a valuable lesson not only in the classroom but also for the rest of my life.” Great column.
