Spielmann: Business, research park would benefit campus, community

The long-considered idea for a business and research park near the UW-Green Bay campus is gaining traction as Brown County officials look to move forward with the concept. Our own Dan Spielmann, special assistant to the Chancellor, sat down with WLUK, Fox 11 reporter (and UW-Green Bay alum) Ben Krumholz Tuesday (Aug. 27) to talk about the University’s involvement, and some of the potential benefits of having such a facility nearby. “We do a lot of internships now,” Spielmann said, “but I could see a lot of students in environmental programs, business programs, engineering technology, all finding internship opportunities and perhaps moving into full-time employment.” The idea for a research and business park in the area initially was considered in the 1990s, but never got off the ground. This time around, County officials recently completed a seven-month study, and plans are in the works to make the 238-acre area a neighborhood of “new economy” businesses, the news report said.
