In the news: On-campus bomb squad training benefits university, community law enforcement
There was a great deal of media interest in Monday’s (Aug. 27) Brown-Outagamie County Bomb Squad training, held throughout the day at various locations on campus. The six-person squad held full-scale drills at the Kress Events Center, Weidner Center for the Performing Arts and campus Language House, donning an 80-pound bomb suit and searching for, scanning and disposing of non-explosive devices designed to simulate a bomb. UW-Green Bay Police Chief Tom Kujawa invited the squad to train here, offering the dual benefit of presenting multiple realistic scenarios along with familiarizing other agencies with campus. It’s part of a ramped-up emergency training effort that also includes improving relationships with area law enforcement agencies. A sampling of coverage is as follows:
