Chancellor’s guest column: We support Division I

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Thomas Harden affirmed the University’s commitment to Division I athletics in a guest commentary in the Monday (June 21) edition of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Harden says UW-Green Bay has a solid Division I program, with success across a broad array of measures.

A sports columnist for the paper had questioned the institution’s level of financial support. The Chancellor said while Phoenix Athletics has not been immune to the financial challenges and budget cuts experienced not only at UW-Green Bay but also across public higher education during the economic downturn, gains have been made, and spending on sports must be viewed with that perspective.
