Alumnus has part in rare Hank Aaron game-used rookie bat to be auctioned this weekend
“It was an innocent gift from a bat boy to a young fan in 1954. A gift that will give Bryan Downey of Jackson some extra spending money 64 years later. Downey, 78, has his prized Hank Aaron game-used rookie bat available at Heritage Auctions, a Texas Company, in its Platinum Night Auction that closes Saturday. UW-Green Bay alumnus Chris Nerat works as Heritage’s consignment director…. “As someone who truly appreciates the sports memorabilia hobby, I definitely understand the importance of this find, and it can’t be overstated,” said Nerat, who graduated from Marinette High School and UW-Green Bay and still lives in Green Bay for part of the year. “Mom could have thrown it out in the garbage. It could have burned in a fire or kids could have destroyed it on the playground.” The Green Bay Press-Gazette has the full story.
