UW-Green Bay’s Fourth Estate says ‘so-long’ to print
The Fourth Estate, UW-Green Bay’s student newspaper launched its new digital-only version last week which spurred some media coverage. Both WTAQ and Fox 11 covered the digital launch. According to UW-Green Bay archivist Deb Anderson, the first published issued of the Fourth Estate was March 4, 1970. An article on the editorial page for that first issue indicated the name Bay Badger had been used intermittently since 1956. Prior titles included the Ex-Press and Gizmanian. “because of the implication of its definition, and its striving for the idea of the four freedoms expressed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his State of the Union message on January 6, 1941…. The four freedoms expressed by Roosevelt which the Fourth Estate is striving to meet are: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of every person to worship God in his own way, freedom from want and freedom from fear, especially as Roosevelt stressed, freedom from the fear of wars.”
