ESPN.com spotlights Phoenix star Sykes and his late father’s impact
Phoenix men’s basketball star Keifer Sykes talks about the legacy and influence of his late father, James, in a heartwarming feature story posted Wednesday (Jan. 7) on espn.com. The story spent much of the day as the featured item on the nation’s most-prominent comprehensive sports news website. Reporter Myron Medcalf writes that it was James who introduced Keifer to the game, who envisioned success for his son, who steered him to UW-Green Bay — and ultimately, whose influence kept Keifer going after James’ sudden death more than two years ago. The story also features a one-on-one video interview in which Sykes answers questions about his dunking skills — including that incredible attempt against Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky — his goals for his game and what’s next. Great story.
