In the news: Martin’s expertise helps frame story on angry emails
The Green Bay Press-Gazette also turned to the expertise of Associate Prof. Ryan Martin for another story that ran Sunday (Sept. 21), this one exploring the influx of angry emails Green Bay Police received after arrest video involving one of its officers went viral. The vast majority of citizen emails received in the wake of last spring’s arrest involving Officer Derek Wicklund were negative, some quite vehemently so. The Internet allows people to express negative feelings without needing to deal with the recipient’s reaction, Martin told reporter Doug Schneider. “When you’re not looking someone in the eye, it becomes really, really easy,” Martin said. “It feels really safe to say these things, because the (subject) cannot respond.” Full story.
