Martin, Arendt to be featured in ‘preppers’ story on WBAY

Thanks in part to a reality TV show and social media sharing, the “prepper” phenomenon has gained pop culture and news media attention in recent months. Preppers are individuals and families who emphasize survivalism and emergency preparedness to an extreme degree, stockpiling food and supplies in case of a natural disaster or financial or government collapse. WBAY, Channel 2 on Thursday (Jan. 31) ran the first part of an in-depth story on the phenomenon, speaking with a self-described prepper who lives near Madison. Part two is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, Feb. 1), and will feature two UW-Green Bay faculty members — psychologist Ryan Martin and disaster response expert Lucy Arendt — offering their respective takes on the prepper mentality. So tune in or set those DVRs tonight, or catch the story after it airs at www.wbay.com. See part one of the story.
