In the news: Bansal offers take for story on Obamacare-related fraud

With the signup for Affordable Care Act health insurance programs fast approaching, news reports are addressing the logistics and possible challenges that could come with implementation. A front-page story in Monday’s (Sept. 16) Green Bay Press-Gazette focused on the possibility of scams, and reporter Doug Schneider talked with faculty member Gaurav Bansal about the potential for fraud. Identity thieves are building increasingly realistic websites, said Bansal, assistant professor of Management Information Systems in the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business. Internet fraud typically follows either a “concocted” approach, in which sites use a business or agency name to obtain personal information from victims; or a “spoofed” approach, in which scammers copy an actual website, Bansal said.
