In the news: Levintova offers take on situation in Syria

Associate Prof. Katia Levintova offered some context for the situation in Syria last week, speaking with WBAY, Channel 2’s Nikki Junewicz about the debate surrounding intervention. “American people need, probably, more information about intelligence that the administration is telling us exists — but nobody really has seen it outside maybe the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations,” said Levintova, Public and Environmental Affairs and chair of Political Science and Global Studies. President Barack Obama, she added, needs to be clearer about the purpose of intervention in making his case to Congress. “I think he needs to make this about the role of the U.S. in the world — and if not the U.S., than who?” Levintova said. “Or he just needs to make this a human rights issue.” Full story.
