Faculty member’s encounter leads to lecture series on Arab culture

Assistant Prof. Jill White and her husband, James, are the catalyst for a new lecture tour that aims to educate Americans about Arab culture. Saturday’s (July 27) Green Bay Press-Gazette carried the story of Tony Anqod and Ahmad Kamal Azban, who have been teaching Americans about Jordanian culture and the Arabic language for nearly a decade in Amman, Jordan. Three years ago, they met Jill White, Human Development, during a trip to Jordan, and that encounter would serve as the basis for their upcoming tour. Green Bay will be the first stop for the pair, who also plan to speak in California, Arizona and elsewhere. White has led travel courses to Jordan and studied such issues as education, identity and the social construction of childhood and youth in that country. Full story.
