Faculty note: Akakpo presents on juvenile sex offenders
College of Health, Education and Social Welfare’s Associate Prof. Francis Akakpo (Social Work) presented a paper on juvenile sex offenders at International Academy of Law and Mental Health (IALMH) conference held from July 9 to July 14, 2017, at University of Charles Prague, Czech Republic. It was entitled “Self-reported of Deviant Sexual Arousal offense among Male Sex offenders.” IALMH bring together the international community of researchers, academics, practitioners and practitioners in the field, whose wide-ranging perspectives provide for comprehensive look at important law and mental health. Akakpo’s paper focused on abnormal sexual interest in children associated with unresolved psychological conflict or trauma experienced in childhood as well as the role of deviant arousal in juvenile sexual offending. The data were collected from 800 male juveniles who were adjudicated and court ordered to receive treatment from eighteen residential facilities.
