AIC’s Robinson accepted as Achievement Gap Institute fellow

Shawn Robinson, multicultural adviser in the American Intercultural Center, has been accepted as a fellow of the 2013 Peabody Professional Achievement Gap Institute at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. The one-week institute runs Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, focusing on assisting educators and administrators in understanding and closing the achievement gap in their classrooms and school districts. As we told you here before — and as you may have read in the recently published issue of Inside 360° magazine — Robinson has done extensive research on the topic of black males and dyslexia. Robinson is dyslexic and was functionally illiterate until the age of 18, but thanks to hard work, determination and proper diagnosis, is now finishing his Ph.D. His dissertation is on this topic, and he’s presented at numerous conferences this year.
