In the news: Furlong offers take for story on governor’s race

Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences Scott Furlong offered his political expertise last week for a Fox 11 News story on national attention being paid to the Wisconsin governor’s race. President Obama visited Milwaukee on Monday with plans to meet with Democratic candidate Mary Burke, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is expected to campaign for Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin within the next month. Bringing in other leaders can make candidates more appealing to voters, Furlong said. “It definitely is a way of mobilizing the base, mobilizing excitement in a campaign and that excitement can translate into people going to the polls later on,” he said.
