Faculty note: Meredith and Gallagher-Lepak present to neighbors on music and its benefits
A presentation for Prof. Sarah Meredith (Music) and Dean Susan Gallagher-Lepak’s (College of Health, Education and Social Welfare), “The Healing Power of Music” was well-received by a capacity crowd of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross on April 1, 2017. The presentation addressed the music of Hildagard von Bingen and other early composers; the influence of different music elements (e.g., rhythm, tempo); benefits of music with various conditions (e.g., dementia, Parkinson’s disease, anxiety) and general wellbeing. Principles of wellness and sustainability are important to the Sisters of St. Francis (a UW-Green Bay neighbor). Meredith and Gallagher-Lepak continue to receive requests from the community for this contemporary presentation.
