Wisconsin sinkholes? Look no further than the Door, Luczaj says

Associate Prof. John Luczaj talked Wisconsin sinkholes with WLUK Fox 11’s Beth Jones Monday (March 4), as Florida authorities continued to investigate a large sinkhole that swallowed a man in his bedroom there. “It’s not that populated, so a sinkhole is most likely to develop in an agricultural field, in a farm field, and that’s where we find them,” Luczaj said, adding that sinkholes are prone to occur where bedrock is dissolvable with rainwater. Large sinkholes are rare but not impossible in Northeastern Wisconsin, Luczaj said, adding that that type of bedrock in our area is found east of the Niagara Escarpment.
