On Saturday, music professors team up for ‘Evening of Miniatures’
The UW-Green Bay music program is preparing a concert this Saturday evening (Oct. 16) with a big idea about “little” music. The free recital, “An Evening of Miniatures: Little Big Music in 100 Notes or Less,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Weidner Center’s Fort Howard Hall.
Earlier this year, members of the UW-Green Bay music faculty invited composers to submit pieces made up of 100 or fewer notes. Says Prof. Michelle McQuade-Dewhirst of the challenge, “This rule requires composers to be very thoughtful and economical about their musical choices.” Dozens of submissions followed, from across the country, many written specifically for the recital. Along with McQuade-Dewhirst, faculty instrumentalists and vocalists performing include Eric Hansen, Adam Gaines, David Severtson, Sarah Meredith Livingston, Courtney Sherman, Randy Meder, John Salerno, and Cheryl Grosso, along with guest artists.
