Long-tenured Congressman Obey addresses UWGB students

david.obeyOn an invitation from Assistant Prof. Aaron Weinschenk (Public and Environmental Affairs), Congressman Dave Obey spoke to Weinschenk’s Congress: Politics and Policy class (Pol Sci 316). The tenured statesman served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 42 years, and chaired the most important committee in Congress — Appropriations — for many of those years.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity for students to hear from one of the longest serving members of the U.S. House,” said Weinschenk.

Students from other classes were also invited and at least 70 students took advantage of this rare opportunity. Students presented Congressman Obey questions for about 45 minutes after his introductory remarks, with topics ranging from polarization to committees in Congress to U.S. foreign policy.
