Another Salerno makes splash on local jazz scene

This weekend’s 2011 Fox Jazz Fest at Menasha’s Jefferson Park will mark a major debut for guitarist Frankie Salerno of Green Bay, the son of music faculty members John and Christine Salerno. He’ll perform in the festival’s 5 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 3) slot as winner of the event’s fourth annual improvisational competition. Area high school band, orchestra, choir and jazz ensemble directors throughout the Fox Valley region were invited to submit student nominations, and the outstanding soloist was chosen by a panel of area jazz professionals. Preceding Frankie’s 5 o’clock show, Chris Salerno and Zigi will be performing at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
