Faculty note: Shelton earns ‘Best Dissertation’ award, book contract
Jon Shelton, assistant professor of Democracy and Justice Studies, was awarded the Labor and Working-Class History Association’s Herbert G. Gutman Prize for Best Dissertation of 2013, presented at the Organization of American Historians annual meeting. The prize comes with a book contract with the University of Illinois Press’s Working Class in American History Series. At the same annual meeting, Shelton was also a co-winner of the Best Article Prize for Volumes 9 and 10 (calendar years 2012-13) for the journal LABOR: Studies in Working-Class History of the Americas. His article was titled ” ‘Against the Public’: The Pittsburgh Teachers Strike of 1975-1976 and the Crisis of the Liberal-Labor Coalition.”
