A big night for UW-Green Bay students at the Addy Awards

The Northeast Wisconsin Fox River Ad Club Addy Awards Gala was held Thursday (Feb. 28) in Appleton. The competition sponsored by the Fox River Ad Club is the first level of American Advertising Federation recognition leading up to regional and national awards, with “Gold Award” winners advancing.

Among highlights for UW-Green Bay students:
• Graphic design student Matt Vanden Boomen received a Gold Student Addy Award and two Silver Student Addy awards. (It’s rare, in any given year, for even professional designers to win more than one or two individual Addy awards.) His gold award was for graphic design of the fall 2012 Sheepshead Review, the art, writing and poetry journal produced each semester by adviser Prof. Rebecca Meacham’s class. Vanden Boomen’s two silver awards were for his designs for Design Studio III exercises, the coffee shop “404” campaign and the “Mustache Milk” men’s cologne package design.

• Another design student, Sarah Schrader, received a Silver Student Addy for her “Open MiC Night” poster for the University Union, where she is a graphic designer. This is the second year she has received a silver.
