UW-Green Bay Chamber Ensembles concert is May 8
The UW-Green Bay Chamber Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 8 at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
The Chamber Ensemble groups performing are the UW-Green Bay Saxophone Quartet, directed by Associate Prof. John Salerno; the Brass Ensemble, directed by Associate Prof. Adam Gaines; the New Music Ensemble directed by Associate Prof. Eric Hansen; and UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble, directed by Prof. Cheryl Grosso.
The UW-Green Bay New Music Ensemble opens the program with “SIM Card Sonata” by Associate Prof. Eric Hansen, which will be followed by “Morning Music II” by Brian Tayler. The group also will perform “Choose Your Own Path: A Musical Adventure” by UW-Green Bay student Kelsie Holtzheimer, and “Ping Pong Music,” a second composition by Hansen. New Music Ensemble personnel are: Kelsie Holtzheimer, Kailey Mucha, Beth Waldeck, Kait Francos, Cassie Germait, Sydney St. Clair, Nicholas Saldana.
The Saxophone Quartet will be the next to perform, beginning with “Sailors Hornpipe” by Henry Cowell and “Pizzicato polka” by Johann Strauss II. The group will then perform “Berceuse,” and “Seville,” both by Isaac Albeniz, and “Banana Rag,” by Christian Daguet. Saxophone Quartet personnel are: Kyle Hall, Kelton Jennings, Alex Munson, McKenna VanDerLeest.
The Brass Ensemble will then open with “Bravura Prelude,” by George Frederick McKay, followed by “Hungarian March from The Damnation of Faust,” by Hector Berlioz (arranged by James Haynor), and “Allerseelen,” by Richard Straus (arranged by Earl Irons). The group will conclude with Henry Purcell’s “Symphony from Fairy Queen.” Brass Ensemble personnel are: James Block, Amanda Cornette, Greg Koeller, Ryan Loining, Carl Onesti, Greg Sauve, Brandt Bailey, Molly Dederich, Jillian Patrick, Doak Baker, Bill Burroughs, Mike Hogan, Tim Kiefer, Cole Watkins, Paul Dugan, Joe Russett, Jamie Rodgers.
The Chamber Ensembles concert will conclude with the UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble, performing three of Grosso’s original compositions — “Rhythm Chant 24,” “Rhythm Chant 16” and “Rhythm Chant 23.” UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble personnel are: Owin Cantable, Laura Cortright, Roxanne Elsner, Lisa Ford, Anna Gribova, Michaela Hogan, Isaiah Hernandez, Kelton Jennings, Brittney Koerner, Adam LeGrave, Jamie Rodgers, Nora Thurber, Jack Van Beek, Thomas Zwicker.
