Prof. Hillhouse and former students highlighted for research publications

Former Weber State University and now UW-Green Bay Assistant Prof. Todd Hillhouse (Psychology) led students in the research endeavors. One study looked at the addictive qualities of nicotine and led to the publication of “Repeated nicotine vapor inhalation induces behavioral sensitization in male and female C57BL/6 mice” in Behavioural Pharmacology in May 2020. The second peer-reviewed paper was an endeavor to find out if Dextramoraphem, a drug with properties similar to ketamine, is effective as a potential rapid-acting antidepressant. Hillhouse and the students involved in the research concluded it most likely isn’t. This research resulted in the publication of “Assessment of the rapid and sustained antidepressant-like effects of dextromethorphan in mice,” in Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior in August 2020. WSU students Ashley Peterson and Justin White participated in the research, along with WSU graduate Jesus Saavedra.
