Former area author Mori to read, discuss work Oct. 3 at UW-Green Bay

Former Green Bay resident Kyoko Mori, an acclaimed novelist and memoirist, will be reading and discussing her work from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 in the 1965 Room of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay University Union, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

Mori, the author of numerous essays, novels and memoirs, was born in Japan in 1957. She earned her Ph.D. in English-creative writing from UW-Milwaukee, and currently teaches in the master of fine arts program at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Her award-winning first novel, Shizuko’s Daughter, was lauded by The New York Times as “a jewel of a book,” and she has published many other critically acclaimed works. Her new memoir, Yarn: Remembering the Way Home, a story of crossing cultures, losing love and finding home, is set in Green Bay.

Mori’s on-campus reading is sponsored by the UW-Green Bay Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the departments of Humanistic Studies and Arts and Visual Design. It is free and open to the public.

In addition to her UW-Green Bay appearance, Mori will host a similar reading and conversation at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 at The Readers Loft, 2069 Central Court, Suite 44, Bellevue.
