Sheboygan’s Tetschlag will be graduating class speaker at UW-Green Bay
Kayla Tetschlag has been chosen to deliver remarks on behalf of the graduating class at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s 2011 spring commencement ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, in the Kress Events Center on campus.
A near-capacity crowd of about 5,000 is expected for the ticket-only event. The 850 or so students eligible to graduate represent a UW-Green Bay record. About 675 of those students have pre-registered to participate in the formal cap-and-gown ceremony.
Tetschlag, a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, will receive her bachelor’s degree with magna cum laude (high) honors in Business Administration. She has a marketing emphasis and minors in Spanish and international business. She is already at work on her master’s degree in UW-Green Bay’s graduate program in Management.
The graduating class speaker is chosen by the Office of the Provost from nominations of outstanding students made by the University community.
During her senior year, Tetschlag served as an intern and assisted officials in beginning to form the new Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a campus-community partnership based at the University.
She earned numerous basketball and academic honors at UW-Green Bay, highlighted by her selection to the Division I Academic All-America Team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Tetschlag was an all-conference performer and team leader of the Phoenix women’s basketball squad that finished its most recent season undefeated at home, 17-0 in games played at the Kress, the site of the May 14 ceremony. Her team went 34-2 overall, reached the “Sweet 16” round of the NCAA Tournament and finished No. 9 in the nation in one of the two major national rankings.
