UW-Green Bay presents 'Musicale Americana'
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop will present “Musicale Americana,” at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday (April 16-17), in the University Theatre in Theatre Hall.
Associate Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston (Music) will direct the concert, which will feature performances by UW-Green Bay students, and musical accompaniment by pianist Mary Slavek.
The first half of the concert will feature selections from American opera/musical theatre. Following an intermission there will be a performance of Mark Bucci’s one-act horse opera “Sweet Betsy from Pike.”
The concert will begin with “Cabaret” from the musical of the same name. Molly Sabel will play the role of Sally Bowles, with choreography by Tenley Hitz.
Next will be a scene from “Down In the Valley” by Kurt Weill and Arnold Sundgaard. Rachel Tom will be featured as Jennie Parsons and Alex Stensaas as Brack Weaver.
That will be followed by “Feelings” from The Apple Tree, by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. Rachel Tom will perform the role of Eve.
“By My Side” from the musical Godspell will be performed by Molly Sabel as Gilmer and Rachel Tom as Peggy.
The first half of the concert will close with “If Ever I Would Leave You” from the musical Camelot, with Alex Stensaas as Lancelot and Tenley Hitz, dancer.
After an intermission will come the one-act horse opera “Sweet Betsy From Pike,” by Mark Bucci, and based upon the popular folk song of the same name. On Friday the cast will feature Rachel Trempe as the Narrator, Jessica Rule as Betsy and Greg Muller as Ike. On Saturday, Charice Twardy will perform as the Narrator, Amanda Gaura will be Betsy and Jacob Ault will be Ike.
“Sweet Betsy” will feature props built by Jay Livingston and costumes supplied by Broadway Costumes of Chicago.
