UW-Green Bay Cofrin School of Business to host March 2 Open House

The Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will host an Open House event from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, March 2. A brief program, which will include a presentation of the Austin E. Cofrin portrait, will begin at 4 p.m.

Located on the fourth floor of L.G. Wood Hall on the campus of UW-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive, the Cofrin School of Business was founded in 2010 following a generous contribution from Austin Cofrin’s son, the late Dr. David A. Cofrin. Shortly before his death in August 2009, David Cofrin announced the $5.5 million gift that would create a fully endowed chair (an additional faculty position in business) and fund a permanent, University-wide endowment for faculty development and academic enhancements. The contribution is the largest single private gift for academics in the history of UW-Green Bay.

Austin E. Cofrin founded the Fort Howard Paper Co. in 1919 on the west shore of the Fox River. Industry colleagues praised Cofrin for his visionary leadership and resourcefulness in solving problems and anticipating trends — Fort Howard was decades ahead of the market in embracing waste paper recycling, for example. Austin Cofrin died in 1980 at the age of 96.

The March 2 Open House will include refreshments and a self-guided tour from 3:30-5 p.m. During the brief program at 4 p.m., UW-Green Bay Chancellor Thomas K. Harden, School of Business Director Lucy A. Arendt and Accounting and Business Administration student Lindsey Marshall will offer remarks.

Directions to UW-Green Bay and maps of the campus are available at www.uwgb.edu/maps. Parking will be free in the Wood Hall Parking Lot during the event. Guests are asked to watch for signs directing them to the southeast corner lounge on the second floor of Wood Hall, where refreshments will be served and the program will be held. Student ambassadors will be on hand to assist guests. Please call (920) 465-2050 with questions.
