Oneida comedian to perform at UW-Green Bay

Charlie Hill, a renowned Native American stand-up comedian, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 in the Phoenix Room inside the University Union on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

Hill, one of the first and most prominent Native American comedians, is a member of the Oneida Nation. He uses humor to share things about Native American culture and break down stereotypes. Hill’s humor is filled with cultural observations and focuses on his experiences as a Native American performer in the national spotlight.

Hill has performed on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno and The Late Show With David Letterman. Hill has also written for Roseanne and was featured on Moesha.

Hill is the inspiration and leader of “Club Red” and the “Club Red Players,” a comedy show on public radio. In 2009, he received the “Ivy Bethune Tri-Union Diversity Award” for the Screen Actors Guild. He was also featured in a Showtime special, “The Indian Comedy Slam, No Reservations Needed.” Hill was the featured performer in the PBS program “On and Off the Res,” from Native American Public Telecommunications.

The performance at UW-Green Bay, titled “Lastelishtha,” is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the UW-Green Bay Intertribal Student Council. Canned goods will be collected at the event and donated to a local food pantry.
