'Doc' Heide stars in 'Guys and Does'
Fred “Doc” Heide ’74 analysis synthesis (above left), is one of the masterminds behind a successful musical comedy that played to 54 consecutive sold-out performances in Door County’s American Folklore Theatre (AFT) this summer and is in Green Bay now through Dec. 12.
Heide is the musician, actor and co-playwright for “Guys and Does,” playing at the Robert Brault Playhouse (home of the Green Bay Community Theatre) in downtown Green Bay. The new woodland fable is about a wacky and wonderful excursion into the world of Wisconsin deer hunting. Heide is a professor of psychology at California’s Alliante University. Tickets are available by calling 920-435-6300.
The show was the most successful in AFT history with nearly 10,000 in attendance and nearly 3,000 turned away for lack of seating at the Peninsula State Park Amphitheatre. The Green Bay run features the same cast as the Door County production, including Doug Mancheski and Heide, both Green Bay natives, and Lee Becker of Milwaukee. Music is by Paul Libman, two-time winner of the Richard Rodgers Award for Best New American Musical. Direction is by AFT artistic director Jeff Herbst, who has both Broadway and Off-Broadway credits. (Kaye Christman ’97, administrative science, also a UW-Green Bay graduate, has been the managing director at AFT since 1998.)
